Gerry Turner was announced as the fisrt lead of The Golden Bachelor, the spin-off of The Bachelor series. The 72-year-old is a grandfather from Indiana who will find his love among the 22 women that he will date on the show.
Who is Gerry Turner?
Gerry Turner is a retired restaurateur. He now loves hosting barbecues, cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, four-wheeling, and spending time with friends and family at restaurants and local haunts as his bio reads.
Gerry is the first senior-aged man to lead the new Bachelor series The Golden Bachelor. He revealed that he was pushed to join the show by his two daughters who have been his greatest support system.
Was Gerry Turner Married Before?
Turner was married to his lovely wife Toni in 1974. Unfortunately, Toni died in 2017 after she fell sick. During an interview with GMA, he said;
“She got robbed. Every day that goes by, that’s the thought that I have. I have her picture on a dresser in my closet. Every morning I give her a nod, ‘So what do you think about this?’ For a while it was like, I was having a hard time figuring out if she would be okay. But we always told each other when one of us goes, we want the other to be happy. She’s up there rooting [for me]. She’s saying, ‘Yeah, Gerry. Do this.’ “

How many children does Gerry Turner have?
Turner and his wife Toni have two daughters Angie and Jenny. He also has two granddaughters Charlee and Payton. He revealed that her daughters encouraged him to join the show and find his happiness.
When Jesse Palmer the host of the show revealed to him that he was chosen as the first Golden Bachelor, his daughters, and granddaughters started “screaming and everybody gathered around”
His daughters also gave him tips for dater in a teaser for the show. They told him he needed to upgrade his texting saying; “You need to upgrade, don’t start with dear ‘her name.’ “
What is The Golden Bachelor All about?
The Golden Bachelor is a new spinoff of the Bachelor Franchise which will feature “a whole new kind of love story — one for the golden years.” As the description for the show reads, the series follows a “hopeless romantic,” who seizes his “second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life.”
Turner who is 72 years old will be the first Golden Bachelor of the show. He will get to date 22 women in order to find “the one”. The show will be hosted by Jesse Palmer who was once The Bachelor Lead in season 5.

Filming
A casting call in January 2020 sought seniors for a new edition of The Bachelor. Due to COVID-19, the series was postponed. In May 2023, ABC commissioned the first season of The Golden Bachelor.
Turner was introduced as the lead in July 2023. Due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, the series will air on Thursday nights and follow the ninth season of Bachelor in Paradise. Filming started in August 2023 in Los Angeles and Costa Rica.
