Who was WBTV’s Meteorologist Jason Myers?

Jason Myers was a meteorologist working for WBTV’s weather team. He also described himself as a mountain biker, father, and husband on his socialmedia accounts.

With over sixteen years of experience as a weather forecaster, Jason had learned to work under stressful situations in order to inform his viewers of their weather forecasts.

Jason was born and raised in Salisbury. He had a passion for weather since he was in 3rd grade while working on a science project. He would make homemade weather stations at home while his mother helped him.

Jason Myers Cause of Death

Myers died on November 22, 2022, in South Carolina in a plane crash. He was with Sky3 pilot Chip Tayag who also, unfortunately, died in the plane crash.

WBTV announced their untimely death releasing a statement saying;

“Our news helicopter Sky3 crashed mid-day Tuesday with two of our colleagues on board. Meteorologist Jason Myers and pilot Chip Tayag lost their lives.

“We are working to comfort their families in this difficult time. We appreciate the outpouring of support for our staff and your continued prayers for their families.”

Jason and pilot Chip Tayag were flying onboard a 1999 Robinson R44. The two were pronounced dead on the scene while three other people were taken to the hospital.

Jason’s fellow workmates at WBTV mourned the deaths of their beloved friends. Anchor Molly Grantham released a statement on air saying;

“….He had a big heart and really wanted to give back to the community. “This was a dream of his to work at WBTV. We’re still processing what’s going on.”

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper called the incident a terrible tragedy for the WBTV family.

“This is a terrible tragedy for the WBTV family and we are praying for them and all of those in the media who work so hard to keep the public informed,” Cooper said.

Jason was married to his wife Jullian Myers. Jason’s love for his family is evident through his social media. He frequently shares photos of his family including his children sometimes celebrating their milestones or for family holidays.

Jason and his wife Jullian have four children Andrew, Lilly, Luke, and Lydia. He has recently celebrated his children’s birthday wishing them love and happiness in their teenage years

Myers began his career as a meteorologist and reporter for KRBC-TV in August 2004. He then joined WRIV-TV8 where he was a meteorologist, traffic anchor, and reporter, and hosted the Great gardens weekend show.

Jason then joined ABC 36, WTVQ-TV in April 2013 in Kentucky where he worked as a chief meteorologist. He spent there six years and was Certified “Most Accurate Forecast in Central Kentucky” by WeatheRate every year.

Jason then joined WBTV in September 2019 where he worked until he met his untimely death.

Myers graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S., Meteorology with a Communication Concentration.
