Dahmen started playing golf at Clarkston High School where he won the WIAA 3A state twice. He went on to join the University of Washington in Seattle and continued playing golf for one year. Now professionally, Joel played on the PGA Tour Canada between 2010 and 2013, but had little achievement.
In 2014, however, he won twice and took the Order of Merit to earn a spot on the Web.com Tour for 2015. Dahmen made the cut in 12 of 25 Web.com Tour tournaments in 2015, with three top-10 performances.
He made it to the Web.com Tour Finals but was denied a PGA Tour card. When he returned to the Web.com Tour in 2016, he made 13 cuts in 20 events, including two tied for third places.
