Abbott started his career as a journalist at Mercer University, where he helped launch Mercer99, an on-campus television station. While in Macon, he worked for local ABC affiliate WPGA-TV, where he appeared on the “58 Sports Show” on a weekly basis. Abbott worked as an intern at Atlanta’s WGCL-TV.
His first professional assignment in journalism was with WCAV-TV in Charlottesville, Virginia, a then-new CBS affiliate, in 2004. He served as the first-ever Sports Anchor for the affiliate, helping to establish and appear in the first newscast for CBS-19 News in November 2004.
In November 2005, Abbott began working for Golf Channel as a reporter and host for the network’s UK Channel, which is located in Orlando, Florida. He worked on the news show Golf Central and also hosted LPGA Tour coverage alongside Laura Baugh.
