Wendy Weil is the Director of Communications at OceanGate. She is best known as the wife of the late Stockton Rush. According to her LinkedIn page, Wendy has been closely linked to the company’s Titanic adventures ever since they started in 2021.

What Happened To The Ocean Gate Submersible?

Titan, an OceanGate, Inc. submersible, lost communication with the surface ship MV Polar Prince on June 18, 2023, while Wendy’s husband, Stockton Rush was aboard the submersible to visit the Titanic debris.

Along with Stockton Rush, the founder of OceanGate, Hamish Harding, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman were among those who went aboard the submersible.

The submersible disappeared from sight, sparking a massive search and rescue operation. The implosion of Titan, which likely occurred during the plunge and instantly killed the five people on board, was reported on June 22, 2023.

That same day, OceanGate stated that it believed Rush and the four other passengers had “sadly been lost” after finding a debris field about 490 meters (1,600 ft) from the Titanic’s bow.

Later, the debris discovered was consistent with a catastrophic failure of the pressure hull, which resulted in the deaths of everyone on board, according to a press conference held by the United States Coast Guard.

According to several credible sources, Wendy traces her roots to Ida and Isidor Straus, a couple who perished in 1912 when the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank.

Richard Weil, the great-grandfather of Wendy, got married to Minnie Straus, who happens to be the child of Ida and Isidor. In the 1997 film Titanic, a fictitious couple was shown clutching each other in bed as the ship sank.

The couple was said to be centered around Isidor and Ida and according to our research, survivors saw the couple on the ship’s deck before it sank.

In a 2017 interview, one of Isidor and Ida’s great-grandsons spoke about the couple’s Titanic experience. He claimed that Ida was on a lifeboat preparing to get off the ship, but she changed her thoughts when she discovered that Isidor was not following her.

Isidor had the authority to board the lifeboat because he was older and wealthy, but he allegedly declined. Isidor’s great-grandson said; “My great-grandfather said, ‘No Until I see that every woman and child on board this ship is in a lifeboat, I will not enter a lifeboat myself”
