BTS has grown to become one of the most influential boyband groups in South Korea and all over the world. Even though the group has taken an indefinite break, their previous hit songs and other past live performances keep their fans going.

The band debuted in 2013 with their single album 2 Cool 4 Skool under Big Hit Entertainment. They have since received enormous accolades and awards throughout their career.

BTS has collaborated with artists all over the world such as Megan Thee Stallion, Hasley, and Charlie Puth, among others. They have also collaborated with high-end brands such as Fila, Samsung, Dior, and Louis Vuitton among others.

They have also performed in big venues all around the world since their debut. In June 2022, BTS announced they would be taking a break from group activities for the members to complete their mandatory South Korean military service.

Their oldest member Jin was the first one to enlist in December 2022 followed by Jhope who enlisted in April 2023. Suga enlisted in September 2023 after the end of his tour while the remaining members RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook enlisted on December 11 and 12 2023.

BTS members have also launched their solo careers since their break in 2022. Jimin released his solo album Face in 2023 which debuted at number one in Japan and his home country South Korea. His single Like Crazy from his album debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.

JHope released his first solo album Jack in The Box in July 2022 and his single “On the Street” with J. Cole in 2023.

Suga released his debut solo album D-Day in April 2023 under his alias Agust D. He then began his first solo tour;  the Suga Agust D Tour, in April 2023 touring the United States, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and completed his tour in Seoul, South Korea.

BTS Meaning

No, BTS doesn’t mean Behind The Scenes. Instead, the name in Korean is Bangtan Sonyeondan (방탄소년단) which literally means ‘Bulletproof Boy Scouts’. Their name represents the group’s wish to “block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim like bullets at adolescents.”

Jin (진)

Jin is the oldest member of BTS. Initially, Jin wanted to be a journalist but later decided to pursue acting. Having no background in music or dance, he auditioned at Big Hit as an actor and later debuted as one of the vocalists for BTS.

Jin (born Kim Seok-jin 김석진) is 30 years old as of 2022. He was born on December 4, 1992, in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Apparently, Jin is from a very wealthy family in South Korea. He runs a restaurant called Ossu Seiromushi with his older brother Kim Seok-Jung.

Suga (슈가)

Suga (born Min Yoon-gi (Korean: 민윤기) is a South Korean rapper, producer, and songwriter. He has written almost all of the bands’ songs and albums.

He auditioned for a rap competition under Big Hit Entertainment and he came out second. Suga was offered a position as a producer and trainee until he became a member of BTS in 2010 when he was 17 years old. He was the second member to join BTS.

Min Yoon-gi was born to his parents in March 1993 in Daegu, South Korea. He was raised alongside his older brother Min Geum-jae.

J-Hope (제이홉)

J-Hope is the lead dancer for BTS. He is a singer-songwriter, dancer, record producer, and part of the rap line (together with RM and Suga). He chose his stage name to give hope and love to his fans and the world at large.

J-Hope released his first solo mixtape Hope World in 2018 and later his single “Chicken Noodle Soup”, featuring singer Becky G. In 2022, he released his studio album Jack in the Box followed by his single “On the Street” with J. Cole in 2023 before joining the military.

RM

Kim Nam-joon (Korean: 김남준) widely known as Rap Monster or RM is the leader of BTS. He is a rapper, producer, and songwriter. He has been credited as a writer and producer for a majority of BTS songs. RM released his first solo album Indigo in 2022 which peaked at peaked at number three on the Billboard 200.

Nam-Joon (남준) is 29 years old as of 2023. He was born on September 12, 1994, in Dongjak District, Seoul, South Korea. He was raised alongside his younger sister. RM is fluent in English which he learned from watching the Friends sitcom.

Jimin (지민)

Jimin (born Park Ji-min (Korean: 박지민) is a South Korean singer and dancer. He released his first solo album Face in March 2023 which debuted at number one in South Korea and Japan, and number two in the United States.

His single Like Crazy debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He has also previously released tracks such as Lie, Serendipity, Filter, and Promise.

Jimin is 28 years old as of 2023. He was born on October 13, 1995, in Geumjeong District, Busan, South Korea. He has a younger brother called Park Ji-Hyun.

V (뷔)

Kim Tae-hyung (김태형) widely known as V is a singer and performer. He has released three solo songs Stigma, Inner Child, and Singularity. V released his official album Layover on September 8 2023 with the singles “Love Me Again” and “Rainy Days” being pre-released in August.

V is also known for his magnificent OST tracks. He sang the OST for Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth called “It’s Definitely You” with Jin. He also appeared in the traditional TV series. V contributed to the soundtrack of the JTBC drama Itaewon Class single “Sweet Night”.

Kim Tae-hyung is 28 years old as of 2023. He was born on December 30, 1995, in Daegu, South Korea. He was raised alongside his younger sister and brother. V and Jimin were highschool mates at Korean Arts High School.

Jungkook (정국)

Jeon Jung-kook (Korean: 전정국) is a South Korean singer. He is known for his melodic voice and is the youngest member of BTS. He has performed three solo songs Begin, Euphoria, and My Time. Junkook also released the official song for the FIFA World Cup soundtrack “Dreamers”, in 2022.

JungKook released his first solo single Seven featuring American rapper Latto. Seven debuted at number one on Billboard Hot 100, Global 200, and Global Excl. US charts. It also became the fastest song in Spotify history to surpass 100 million streams.
