She was previously the co-anchor for Good Morning Tennessee on WATE 6 On Your Side alongside Doug Currin. Smith has been working at WATE in various roles since June 2002. Before joining WATE, Smith previously worked at WKAG in Kentucky, at NBC 6 South Florida.

Smith joined WATE in June 2002. She is the morning anchor for Good Morning Tennessee on WATE 6 On Your Side and the host of Voices of the Valley. She also handles developing stories, breaking news, and any information happening around East Tennessee. Tearsa is also a contributor to the Marc and Kim show on Star 102.1 fm.
Tearsa previously worked for WKAG in Kentucky as a news reporter and news writer from September 2001 to June 2002. She began her journalism career at NBC 6 South Florida as an associate producer in Miami, Florida. She also worked at the City of Miami, in the Department of Communications in 1996.
Tearsa graduated from Florida A&M University where she majored in Broadcast Journalism. Besides her journalism work, Smith is a Wesley House Community Center board member. She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Knoxville Alumnae Chapter.
