Andy joined the Kansas City Chiefs as the head coach in 2013 after signing a five-year contract with the team and that marked the beginning of many successful years. The terms of his deal initially gave him the same “final say” in football decisions as it did in Philadelphia.

His first game was successful; he won against the Jacksonville Jaguars 28–2. This was a unique record as it happened to be the biggest margin of victory in their opening game since 1963.

During the 2016 Chiefs regular season, Reid made great progress and the team won their assigned division for the first time under his leadership and for the first time since 2010.

The Chiefs had an impressive start to the 2017 season, winning their first five games to tie the NFL record for the fewest unbeaten teams. They also triumphed over the New England Patriots, the reigning Super Bowl champions, in the kickoff game.
